Pet Sounds: in the key of dee

Just stumbled on a blog post from Gorilla vs. Bear linking to this guy’s Myspace page.

He created a musical blend of J Dilla beats and the Pet Sounds album from the Beach Boys. It contains 13 tracks and the runtimes are all fairly short… I think the entire collection clocks in under 30 minutes. But it’s nice if you’re craving some of that hippity hoppity, bleepity-bloopity instrumental stuff.

No Country For Old Men

The Coen Brothers have a new film out, and I neeeeeeed to see it. It’s getting amazing reviews, and seems to be in the vein of Blood Simple and Fargo. On another note, when I mentioned this to Mel, she said she’s never actually seen Fargo, so that’s on the rental list. Perfect winter-time viewing… maybe I’ll add A Simple Plan to the list and we’ll make it a wintery-midwest-murder-movie-mix.

Lupe Fiasco – Superstar

I don’t think this video lives up to the quality of his others, but I’m excited for the new album (out in December).

Daydreamin’ (from his last album):

Okie Noodling

My next Netflix arrival is going to be a documentary called Okie Noodling. It’s about Oklahoma yokels who catch giant catfish by using their forearms as bait. I’m sure it will be a masterpiece.

Shattered Glass

This weekend I watched Shattered Glass. Surprisingly great movie, and I had no idea Hayden Christensen can act. Further proof that George Lucas destroys everything he touches.

Nostalgia City

Just came across my old thesis blog for the first time in a while. Definitely of no interest to anyone but me, but I’ll be wasting some time in it for sure.

Lately I’ve been ingesting:

Talib Kweli “Eardrum”
Madlib “Beat Konducta Vol. 1-4″
Hot Fuzz
Heroes, Season 2
Sirius Satellite Radio
Stones Throw podcasts
Last.fm

I’m really liking last.fm lately. It’s filling me in on a lot of new music… I haven’t come across this many new artists since I belonged to the 313 Music List. For work it’s perfect: I type in an artist I like, and then I listen to the recommendation channel, which plays tracks by other related musicians. Very nice, and it never gets boring.

Wordpress updated, styles gone

The upgrade went smoothly, EXCEPT all my styles are gone (sidebar and header reverted to default). I’ll try to fix everything when I’m not feeling so lazy. Shouldn’t take long.

Updating Wordpress

I’m going to suck it up and upgrade to the latest version of Wordpress. Let’s see how it goes.
